*When you've been photographing since the Bicentennial there emerges a tension between the impulse to own, organize, and catalog 50 years of seeing, and the urge to simply let go of the obsession.  That is where my concerns lay.  Technique has long since become instinct and the relevance of my photographs is reduced to coincidence.  I find that cataloging isn't about imposing structure anymore; it's about making peace with the sheer volume of moments I've claimed with one of many cameras over the past 50 years.  If you choose to tackle the archive, the trick is to make the process as immediate and fluid as the act of shooting itself—without letting the metadata swallow the vibe.  Whether you finish cataloging every frame or decide to leave the rest untouched, the archive already exists in its complete form in how you see the world right now.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        PLR  11/1/26
